I friend surprised me the other day with the gift of a 4 pack of 90 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head. How did she know it is one of my favorite beers? At first glance, something looked different about this 4 pack, but it wasn't until I took a closer look that I recognized something entirely new.
I previously heard about the new bottles coming from the brewery, but thought it was only for the larger 22 oz bottles. Turns out, it is for the 12 oz bottles too (watch out New Belgian). With a closer look, you can see the Dogfish oval logo raised on the lower portion of the neck. This logo is on both sides. The neck is also rather narrow at the top, brought up to that point with a sexy smooth concave upwards curve. Or you could say, it is brought to the fat point of the bottle with a sexy smooth concave downwards curve. I'm sure there is a technical term for it.
Being the geek I am, I just happen to have an old bottle of 90 Minute IPA on display in the house. Let's see what else may be different about the new bottles.
With the side view, the difference in the neck becomes more evident. The addition of the raised logo also seems to have given way to the removal of the logo label at the top. (Traditionally, only some of the Dogfish Beers have/had this additional paper label.) Perhaps it's good that I've collected this one. The main label seems to be about the same, if not just with a slight variation in color, most likely due to new ink and perhaps age.
The previous bottles were nothing special. Just normal brown style beer bottles. I liked them, as they are easy to clean and recycle for use with home brewed beer.
I do like the new bottle. Very sexy! More importantly, a great beer! Most importantly, a very thoughtful friend for the gift.
