This time of year is great for traditions. We get the lights out and put a dead tree in our living room. We even decorate it. The stockings get hung, but not from the chimney. (After all, this is Florida.) It is a good time for family, fun, and of course good beers.
I enjoy the stronger beers especially during the holidays. The cooler weather lends well to the alcohol warmth of the winter ales. Unlike the tree which begins to wilt the day it arrives, the beers will actually improve as they age.
Two that interested me this year were the Sierra Nevada Narwhal Imperial Stout, and Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine. I purchased a 4 pack of each, and while they are both enjoyable now, with age they will be even more enjoyable (perhaps).
So my plan is this. Drink one of each this year, during the week surrounding Christmas, and place the remainder in the closet. Next year I'll drink another (and purchase another 4 pack). The following year, another, with the 4 packs lasting through 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. It may be worth the wait... I guess we'll wait and see.
